Earlier this week I ordered the Insanity Kit from Beachbody Workouts by Shaun T. It was a ridiculously good deal and I’ve been curious about it for awhile. I gave in. I clicked order on my computer. Three days later, this package arrived at my door.
After seeing tons of advertisements for it and shockingly good results regular people have had with it via before/after pictures on Pinterest I knew I had to try it out. I mean, come on. Even friends of mine have been posting Facebook statuses that they are trying out the program and experiencing results. What do I have to lose?
I’ll admit that I was excited, but also very nervous about trying Insanity. I’ve never been a home-video workout kind of girl — mostly because I’m not very coordinated when it comes to mimicking someone else’s moves on TV.
I started out by taking my before pictures (Thank you full length mirror in the hallway) and checking out the materials in the kit.
As you can see, my problem is that I went from a classic hour glass figure when I was much younger and healthier to a full on pear shape. (YUCK)
The kit comes with a 60 day wall calendar that tells you which video workouts to do on which days.
Based on other workout attempts I know that one of my biggest obstacles is how sore I get. I can’t continue because of it. I’ve decided that I am going to take this program slowly. I will do Insanity every other day. So yes, clearly it will take me longer than 60 days to complete the program. On the off days I will run using my couch to 5k program.
I previewed today’s workout before I attempted it. Once I felt comfortable I got a bottle of cold water, a towel and got down to business. Today was the Fit Test video. I had to complete as many reps of each exercise as I could in one minute intervals. Then, I had to record these stats to compare them to future workouts.
I get the idea here. You want to know your starting point so that you can see that you are making progress with strength and endurance. I can’t help having mixed feelings though. Day 1 was demoralizing. I realized just how out of shape I am. At the same time completing Day 1 means that I only have 59 more days to go!
Another exciting piece of news is that I found out my best friend Katie is going to follow the same running/video regimen as me even though she’s all the way in Houston, TX!
To tell the absolute truth it made me feel a lot better knowing that someone else is going to be suffering with me and that we can keep each other accountable.
Katie, yay for us getting healthy together! And yay for looking totally hot in your wedding in October!!
